Shri Chand Ji Maharaj
Jagat Guru Baba Sri Chand Ji Maharaj born at the home of Guru Nanak Dev ji on Friday, 1551(1498 AD) Bhadro Sudi. At that time persecution increased in the world, sins increased, Hindus were subjected to various forms of persecution. Yag, Havan, Pooja, Paath, Sankh, Gharials were banned from playing in religious places. Then the earth called before Nirankar and he was born at the home of Guru Nanak Dev ji, as avatar of Lord Shiva Shankar. At birth, the ear had a flesh ring and the body was wearing a vorof. The head had a golden brown Bavarian. When you were born, the gods rained with flowers. Aunt Nanaki started receiving congratulations and a few days later she went to brother Nanak in Sultanpur and gladly greeted brother and explained the amazing form of the child. After listening his sister’s wordings, Guru Nanak Dev Ji said :
ਸੁਣ ਬੇਬੇ ਜੀ ਬਾਤ ਬਤਾਊ ॥ ਹਮਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਆਇਆ ਗਿਰਧਾਰੀ ॥
ਇਹ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਉੱਤਮ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥ ਇਸ ਕਾ ਪੰਥ ਚਲੇ ਜਗ ਸਾਰੀ ॥
ਸਾਧ ਮੁਰਤ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਜਗਵੇਤਾ।I ਹਮਰੇ ਸੁਖ਼ਨ ਪਰ ਰਖਿਆ ਹੇਤਾ ॥
Guru Nanak Dev Ji said that this boy will be especially miraculous and in his name will be considered as an indifferent sect in the world. Lord Shankar has incarnated in our house. As a child he used to meditate in solitude. His mind was detached from the things of the world.
You have lived all your life as indifferent from worldly things. This was confirmed by Bhai Santokh Singh Ji in Suraj Prakash Granth Part I Section 6 as….
ਮੂਲੇ ਕੀ ਤਨਿਜਾ ਵਡਭਾਗਨ, ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਮਹਿਲਾ ਮਹਾਂ ਸੁਹਾਗਣ ।
ਤਿਸਤੇ ਪੁਤਰ ਭਏ ਜੁਗ ਧੀਰ, ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਮਹਿ ਅਚਲ ਗੰਭੀਰਾ ।
ਜੇਠੇ ਤਾਂ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਚੰਦ ਉਧਾਰਾ, ਨਹਿ ਗ੍ਰਹਿਸਥ ਮਗ ਅੰਗਿਆਰਾਂ I
ਰਹੈ ਬ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਨਿਤ ਜੋਗ ਅਰੂੜਾ, ਇਕ ਰਸ਼ ਮੈਂ ਆਸ਼ੇ ਜਿਸ ਗੂੜਾ |
ਜਿਨ ਕੇ ਛੁਯੋ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਨਾ ਕੋਇ, ਜਤੀ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਭੀਸ਼ਮ ਸਮ ਸੋਇ |
Chura Mani Bhai Santokh Singh ji writes that Baba Shri Chand ji was a complete brahma giani. Whose attention was attached to mediatation. who have no impurities.
Baba Sri Chand Ji Maharaj lived in this world for 151 years and preached religion. The people who wandered forgotten, were guided by the right path. Kings, Maharajas also came to yours shelter and kept bowing their heads. Once Jahangir came to see Baba Sri Chand Ji. He saluted Babaji and what does he see that Babaji’s blanket was crossing near Babaji. Seeing this, the king was astonished and Baba ji asks Maharaj what is jumping out of this blanket. Babaji replied that it was the thing of fakirs that should not interfere with the fakirs’s (saints) matters. Then Jahangir again requested that Maharaj first show what is in blanket. Baba Shri Chand ji said that leave the blanket and see Jahangir. Then Jahangir got fever immediately and started suffering. Soon the king’s face turned red and began to heat like a tandoor, and he said, “Do you save me, My Lord?” Babaji then asked Him(the heat) to go back to the blanket. Then Jahangir repented of his mistake and vowed that he would never again insist on such a sadhu mahatma(saint). Then Baba Sri Chand Ji said that never interfered in the affairs of fakirs.
Baba Sri Chand Ji Maharaj Ji has such endless miracles. Baba Ji preached in Kabul, Kandahar, Kashmir, Afghanistan, Balochistan, Baghdad, Sindh and India. Thus when Baba ji went to Kashmir, a mother’s son died in a village named Renka. She cried and came to Babaji’s place and began to cry. Baba ji, seeing the miserable condition of lady, said, “O lady, go and put this pinch of dust in the mouth of the child and sprinkle water from the karmandal, then the boy got up and sat down.”
Baba Shri Chand ji Maharaj was a full-fledged mahapurush. Until the Sixth Patshahi Shri Guru Hargobind, all the Gurus continued to respect him. Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji gave this blessing to Baba Shri Chand Ji Maharaj….
ਕਰਾਮਾਤ ਹਵੇਂ ਹੈ ਤੁਮ ਮਾਹੀ, ਸਿਖ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਸਰਬ ਪੁਜਾਹੀ ॥
ਜਗਤੁ ਬਿਰਾਜਹੁ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਉੱਚੇ, ਤੁਮਰੀ ਸ਼ਮਤਾ ਕੋ ਨ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ||
There are two temples of Baba Sri Chand Ji Maharaj near Golden Temple, Amritsar. One is Udasin Akhara Sangal Wala, opposite to Central Sikh Museum, near ghanta ghar chowk(Clock Tower Chowk) and the other is Akhara Brahm Boota Saheb(also known as Brahmboota Udasin Akhara), near Guru ka Langar, Golden Temple. In the Udasin sect, Akhara means a common place where the fellow followers of the path stay and worship. These Akharas manage to run the temple with their selfless services to the worshipers.
